Musingu High School is gearing up to host its annual Open Sports Tournament on January 30 and 31, 2027, with schools expected to compete in a wide range of disciplines at the institution's grounds in Kakamega County.
The two-day event, scheduled to begin at 8 am on both days, is expected to bring together school teams from the county and neighbouring areas. It will give learners a platform to showcase their skills and test their preparedness against other institutions.
In an invitation letter dated October 2026, the school outlined a programme featuring boys' soccer, hockey for boys and girls, boys' Rugby 15s, girls' Rugby 7s, basketball, handball, volleyball, lawn tennis, badminton, table tennis, chess and lacrosse sixes.
The range of disciplines is expected to allow participating schools to assess their squads, identify emerging talent and strengthen their competitiveness in school sports.(Education News Kenya — https://educationnews.co.ke/news/musingu-high-school-to-host-two-day-open-sports-tournament-in-january)
Soccer, rugby and basketball are among the major attractions on the programme, alongside indoor and racquet sports that give learners other avenues to demonstrate their abilities.
The inclusion of both boys' and girls' competitions also provides opportunities for wider participation, while promoting teamwork, discipline and sporting excellence among students.
For schools preparing for the tournament, the event will offer valuable match experience and an opportunity to evaluate tactical approaches, team coordination and individual performance ahead of future competitions.
Musingu High School has announced a participation fee of Sh3,000 per team, while racquet games will cost Sh500 per player.
Certificates and trophies will be awarded to the top three teams in each discipline, setting the stage for a competitive contest as participating schools seek recognition for their performances.
Teams have also been advised to carry packed lunch, while institutions requiring accommodation are expected to make arrangements with the organisers in advance.
