The County Government of Machakos is constructing Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) classrooms across the county for Sh300 million, an infrastructure overhaul expected to provide a firm foundation and a conducive learning environment for children beginning their education journey.
Governor Wavinya Ndeti announced this on Tuesday when she commissioned a new ECDE classroom in Yathui, Wamunyu Ward. The modern classroom has tiled floors and is equipped with learner-friendly chairs and tables.

Speaking at the event, the Governor said a good learning environment is essential for nurturing confident, healthy and well-prepared young learners. "The new Yathui ECDE classroom will provide a safe, modern and conducive space where our children can learn, play and grow," she said.

Ndeti added that her administration has continued to strengthen early childhood education through daily meals, the Maziwa ya Mama programme, provision of learning materials and age-appropriate furniture. "These interventions have contributed to the growth of ECDE enrolment in Machakos from 32,000 to over 42,000 learners," she said.

County Executive Committee Member for Education Dr Consolata Mutisya announced that the Governor will on November 30 launch schemes of service for ECDE teachers. Mutisya said the department will also enrol 1,700 youths into the Machakos Youth Service (MYS) Cohort 3 this month, while Cohort 2 will graduate and be equipped to venture into various trades acquired during training.

She further announced that the county government will provide full scholarships to 80 deserving pupils, two from each ward, to pursue secondary education. "Two children in each ward will get a full scholarship to pursue secondary education. So encourage your child in Grade 9 to work hard," Mutisya said.
