A sombre mood has engulfed Chibwobi Village in Gesusu Location, Nyaribari Masaba, following the sudden death of their daughter.

According to family members, Triza Ogida, a Form Four candidate at Kereri Girls National School, died over the weekend after a short illness.

Family sources said Triza developed a sudden fever on Friday evening and was rushed to a nearby hospital in Kisii, where she was admitted for treatment. Her condition reportedly worsened on Saturday night, and she passed away while receiving treatment.

News of her demise spread through the school like a bushfire on Sunday when teachers broke the sad news to students.

Her classmates and teachers mourned her as a very zealous, self-disciplined and self-driven girl who had a clear vision for her future.

The class teacher described Triza as one of the most focused candidates in the stream, always punctual, respectful and eager to learn.

"She was a girl who knew what she wanted in life. She was disciplined, she motivated others, and her dream was to join university and make her parents proud," the teacher said.

When Education News contacted the school administration for comment, it had not released any official comment on the circumstances surrounding the death nor any announcement on the date of her send-off.

Community mourns

At her home in Gesusu, the community is still struggling to come to terms with the loss of their daughter, with neighbours and church members streaming in to comfort the grieving family.

The body is preserved in one of the hospitals in Kisii County awaiting postmortem and burial arrangements.
