Stakeholders have been called upon to equip the youth with foreign language skills that will assist them in securing employment opportunities abroad.
The call was made by Waithera Muithirania, a director at Sivana College, during a ceremony for students who completed their German language training, where she urged parents to equip their children with German language skills, with an eye on the future.
The college has branches in Thika and Ruiru towns, where the youth learn technical courses.
“Encourage your children to learn German as demand for skilled workers in Germany continues to rise annually, following the employment opportunities for people with the right qualifications and language skills,” said Muithirania.
She said proficiency in German is an important requirement for those seeking to live, study or work in Germany.
Muithirania said Germany offers numerous employment opportunities and competitive salaries, but warned that language skills are essential for people hoping to work and integrate successfully into the country.
Parents urged to support foreign language training
She called on parents to support their children in learning German, saying the skill could give them access to wider career opportunities and improve their chances of securing employment abroad.
“There are hundreds of technical jobs that can be done by Kenya’s youth,” she said.
