The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) has announced the processing and disbursement of 12 additional student loan batches, giving university and college students another opportunity to verify the status of their government funding.
In a notice dated Monday, October 26, 2026, the board listed the batches that had been successfully processed and disbursed, urging beneficiaries to confirm whether their batch numbers were included in the latest update.
“The batches listed below have been successfully processed and disbursed as of 26th October 2026. Check if your batch is listed!” HELB stated.
The 12 batches are:
- HELB-006970
- HELB-007172
- HELB-007173
- HELB-007176
- HELB-007177
- HELB-007178
- HELB-007179
- HELB-007181
- HELB-007182
- HELB-007187
- HELB-007190
- HELB-007191
The announcement comes as institutions and students continue navigating higher education financing requirements during the 2026/2027 academic year.
However, HELB did not disclose the total amount disbursed or the number of students covered by the latest release.
Students are therefore advised to verify their individual accounts rather than assume that the announcement confirms the exact amount they will receive.
How to check your HELB disbursement status
Students can verify their funding status through the official Higher Education Financing (HEF) student portal at https://portal.hef.co.ke/.
Beneficiaries should log in using their registered account details and review their application, allocation and disbursement information.
Those who require clarification can contact HELB or their respective institutions through official communication channels.
Students should also distinguish between tuition and upkeep payments.
Tuition funds are paid directly to learning institutions, while upkeep funds are paid to eligible beneficiaries through their designated payment channels.
Those awaiting upkeep payments should monitor the phone number linked to their HELB accounts for official payment notifications.
Latest release follows earlier October updates
The October 26 announcement follows earlier disbursement updates issued by HELB during the month.
On October 8, the board announced the processing and disbursement of five batches: HELB-007139, HELB-007145, HELB-007147, HELB-007146 and HELB-007132.
On October 12, HELB announced seven additional batches that had been processed and disbursed as of October 9.
They were HELB-007062, HELB-007166, HELB-007170, HELB-007171, HELB-007163, HELB-007150 and HELB-007148.
The successive announcements provide students with further information as the government continues processing higher education funding.
Students whose batch numbers do not appear in the latest notice should not interpret the omission as evidence that their applications have been rejected.
They should check their individual funding status and await further official communication.
Funding delays remain a challenge
The latest update comes amid concerns about the timing of student funding, particularly among learners who depend on government support to pay tuition fees and meet daily expenses such as accommodation, food and transport.
For students from financially vulnerable households, delays in upkeep payments can disrupt their ability to remain on campus, attend classes and meet essential living costs.
The Ministry of Education previously urged students to remain patient as the government continued processing HELB funds, acknowledging that some beneficiaries were still awaiting payments.
The continuing batch announcements underscore the importance of timely communication between HELB, the Ministry of Education, universities, colleges and students.
Clear information on allocations, payment schedules and outstanding applications can help learners plan their finances and reduce uncertainty.
HELB has also warned students and parents to be cautious of fraudsters claiming they can accelerate loan applications or secure payments in exchange for money.
Beneficiaries should use official communication channels and avoid sharing confidential account information with unauthorised individuals.
As disbursement continues, students are encouraged to verify their individual funding status through the HEF portal and seek clarification directly from the relevant authorities where necessary.
