Dan Nyakora, a former top-performing student at St Anthony Boys High School, has returned to Kenya to reunite with Cosmas Stephen Nabungolo, the educator who mentored him during his school days.
Nyakora visited Nabungolo, who is now the Chief Principal of St Joseph's Boys High School, in a reunion that brought back memories of his outstanding academic performance. Nabungolo was the principal of St Anthony Boys when Nyakora studied at the school and recalled him as an exceptionally gifted student who scored a straight A and ranked among the top performers in the country at the time.

"Dan is a young man I taught at St Anthony's. He scored straight A's and was among the top students in this country at the time," Nabungolo said.

Nyakora has since built a successful career and is now the chief executive officer of an electric firm based in Lagos, Nigeria. He flew in to meet his former principal and share his story, turning the visit into a memorable reunion.

For Nabungolo, the meeting was a reflection of the lasting influence teachers can have on the lives of young people, even many years after they leave school.

"To me, this is more than a gathering; it is an amazing reunion, a beautiful reminder of what a teacher can plant in a young person and how, with the right guidance and opportunity, that seed can grow into something remarkable," he said.

The chief principal said Nyakora's journey demonstrated the importance of providing young people with the right guidance and opportunities to develop their talents and pursue their ambitions. From excelling academically at St Anthony Boys to taking up a leadership position in the energy sector in Lagos, Nyakora's journey has been marked by significant growth and achievement.

His return also offered an opportunity to reconnect with the educator who played a role in his formative years and to reflect on the lessons and experiences that shaped his journey. The reunion served as a reminder to current students that the impact of education goes beyond examination results, as the relationships built between teachers and learners can continue to influence their lives long after they leave school.
