St Joseph’s Boys High School and St Joseph Girls High School stamped their authority in handball as the Rift Valley Secondary Schools Term One Games concluded yesterday at Nakuru High School.

In the boys’ final, St Joseph’s Boys from Trans Nzoia edged out Serem Secondary School of Nandi 33-30 in a thrilling encounter.

Guided by coaches Wesley Sanya and Markon Ogada, the Kitale-based side displayed resilience and tactical discipline to secure the regional crown.

Their victory highlighted Trans Nzoia’s growing dominance in school handball.

St Joseph Girls shine

St Joseph Girls also rose to the occasion, defeating AIC Kosirai Girls 24-18 in the final to complete a memorable double for the county in handball.

Beyond handball, the games delivered exciting contests across other disciplines.

In boys’ basketball, reigning 2025 Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) national 5×5 champions Laiser Hill Academy from Kajiado defeated St Joseph’s Boys, Kitale, 87-70.

St. Joseph’s Boys (JOBO) clinched the Rift Valley handball title after edging Serem Boys (SEBO) 33–30 in a closely contested final.

The girls’ basketball title went to St Brigid’s Girls’ of Trans Nzoia, who thrashed Cheptil High School of Nandi 77-44.

In the boys’ hockey, national runners-up St Anthony Boys High School (Trans Nzoia) beat St Albert Kamito of West Pokot 3-0, while Serem Secondary (Nandi) secured third place after edging Narok Boys 2-0.

St Joseph Girls (Trans Nzoia) dominated the girls’ hockey final with a commanding 7-0 win over St Mary’s Girls, Tachasis of Nandi.

In rugby 15s, Menengai High School (Nakuru) narrowly defeated St Anthony (Trans Nzoia) 12-5 in the final.

Attention now shifts to the national stage as regional champions prepare for tougher battles ahead, which are scheduled for next month in Nakuru
