National school games programme out as Kakamega gears up for huge extravaganza

Kakamega County is set to become the epicentre of school sports as it prepares to host the 2025 Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) National Term 2 Games. This is according to the programme released by the Principal Secretary for Basic Education, Professor Julius Kibet Bitok.

The 2025 games, scheduled for July 29 to August 2, will bring together the country’s top athletes across various disciplines. Additional activities for special needs sports will be hosted at St Peter’s Mumias.

The 2025 KSSSA Term 2 Games will feature a range of exciting sports, including football, volleyball, rugby sevens (for both boys and girls), badminton, table tennis, and basketball 3-on-3. The Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSSA) Games will follow immediately after, from August 14 to 22, 2025, in Kakamega.

The venues for the games have been carefully selected across the county. Football will be played at Bukhungu Stadium (with artificial turf), Mumias Sports Complex, Sigalagala National Polytechnic, Kakamega High School (with two fields), Mukumu Boys, and Approved School. Rugby Sevens will take place at the Bullring, which has two pitches.

Volleyball will be hosted at Kakamega High School, while netball will be played at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology. Basketball games will be held at the Police Canteen in Kakamega and St Peter’s Mumias Boys’ High School. Racket sports, including badminton and table tennis, will be played at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, and lawn tennis will take place at Kakamega Sports Club.

Kakamega, a region long known for its passion for sports, is now preparing to host hundreds of athletes, coaches, and officials.

As Kakamega prepares to host these prestigious events, local authorities, schools, and residents unite to ensure a successful and memorable competition. The excitement continues to build as athletes and spectators await the opening of this highly anticipated sporting extravaganza.
