Nakuru High School is set to host a major national mentorship forum aimed at shaping the next generation of student leaders across the country.

According to an official invitation letter and event poster circulated to schools, the institution will hold a “National Student Leaders/Prefects Mentorship Programme” on Sunday, May 24, 2026, bringing together prefects and student leaders from primary schools, junior schools, secondary schools, and high schools.

The one-day leadership seminar is expected to take place at Nakuru High School from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and will focus on leadership development, discipline, academic excellence and preparing students for future leadership roles both nationally and internationally.

The event has already received approvals and endorsements from several education offices and associations, including the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) Nakuru County Office, the County Director of Education, the Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association (KESSHA) and the Kenya Primary Schools Heads Association (KEPSHA), as indicated by official stamps appearing on the invitation document.

In the letter addressed to school principals, the organizers said the mentorship programme seeks to empower student leaders with practical leadership skills and values needed in modern learning institutions.

“The prefects will be taken through thematic areas by competent motivational speakers and leadership trainers,” part of the letter reads.

Among the key speakers expected during the forum are Nakuru High School Chief Principal John Ole Kuyo, Tenwek High School Chief Principal Mutai Chesebe, Alliance High School Chief Principal Kamau Chomba, Citizen TV journalist Maryanne Nyambura, academic mentor Benson Malata, and event coordinator Tomkim Baraza.

The mentorship sessions will cover several critical areas, including balancing leadership and academic excellence, understanding the priorities of an effective student leader, promoting discipline among fellow students and preparing young leaders to become future changemakers in the 21st century.

The organizers say the mentorship initiative comes at a time when schools across the country are increasingly focusing on nurturing responsible student leadership and strengthening discipline through peer influence and mentorship.

Schools participating in the programme will be required to register their student leaders at a fee of Sh500 per student, with each institution expected to send a minimum of 10 prefects.

Organizers, however, encouraged schools to send as many student leaders as possible.

Participating students will also be required to carry writing materials, while schools will organize lunch arrangements for their prefects.

Lunch will be provided for accompanying teachers.

The programme is expected to attract hundreds of student leaders from different parts of the country, making it one of the largest student leadership mentorship forums organized by a secondary school in recent years.

Schools were asked to confirm participation before May 23, 2026, through the event coordinators.
