A family in Njoro sub-County, Nakuru County is mourning the tragic death of their 12-year-old daughter, a Grade Six pupil, who was allegedly assaulted and killed on Monday, May 18.
According to the local residents the child, Mercy Nyambura Mureithi, was last seen leaving for school on Monday morning before she went missing.
Area Chief Mwangi Kiaraho confirmed that Nyambura’s body was discovered on Tuesday, May 19, hidden in a local maize plantation following an extensive search by residents.
Local authorities suspect she was tortured and strangled, noting that the victim suffered severe head trauma, a severed left eye, and bruising around her neck.
Mwangi stated that Nyambura was allegedly defiled before being murdered. He added that her body was moved to Egerton University Mortuary, awaiting post-mortem.

Mourning residents expressed their grief as they demanded justice for the family, which was left too shocked to speak.
“Our hearts are in so much pain because of that. We want justice for the child and compensation for the family,” said one of the locals.
They urged local leaders to protect the villagers, especially children, noting a rise in crime in the area because of bushy roads and lack of street lights. Residents also blamed increased alcohol and substance abuse for the insecurity, calling on authorities to intervene and support the area.
