Multimedia University was on Wednesday closed indefinitely after students staged demonstrations, blocking the busy Magadi road.
The students became unruly and attempted to interfere with motorists along Magadi Road, leading to the decision by the University management to close the institution.
In a memo to students and staff members, the students paralyzed learning activities and general operations of the university for three days.
“By a copy of this memo, all affected students must clear from the university compound immediately but not later than 6 pm today 15th September 2021,” read part of the memo.
The students went on strike following University’s staff members who had also gone on a strike on Monday, September 13.
The lecturers stated that their reason for striking was the implementation of the 2017-2021 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
Universities Academic Staff Union (UASU) Secretary General Constantine Wasonga had indicated that there would be protests in 35 universities that have not complied with a court directive to clear salary arrears owed to lecturers.
