A mass demonstration across all the University of Nairobi campuses has been announced by the University of Nairobi Students Association (UNSA) due to increment of tuition and accommodation fees.

A memo signed by UNSA Secretary-General Nathan Kiplagat, indicted that mass demonstrations will kick off from Monday September 20, 2021.

“There will be mass demonstration in all University of Nairobi Campuses beginning from Monday 20th September, 2021. Deliberation with the University of Nairobi administration on the increment of both school fees and accommodation fee has failed,” the memo read.

The first year students and parents were warned from reporting to campuses on the said dates.

“In this regard, all first-year parents and students who are to report to the university on the date (September 20) are advised not to report to the university,” reads part of the memo.

This comes after the University decided to increase tuition fees in some of the courses it offers due to shortfall in students’ enrollment.

The tuition fee for courses like Master’s degree in Communication was raised to Sh600, 000 from Sh275, 000.

Other courses that received the blow were Bachelor of Commerce, Economics, and Law particularly self-sponsored programmes which were increased to about Sh1 million.
