The National Assembly Public Investments Committee (PIC) on Education and Governance has ordered Maasai Mara University to immediately reinstate dismissed employees.

In a session co-chaired by Jack Wamboka and Naisula Lesuuda on Wednesday, the MPs also ordered for a forensic audit of the university’s financial statements from 2015/2016 fiscal year onwards.

Wamboka cited recent dismissals at the University as a prime example of institutional collapse due to mismanagement and non-compliance to set regulations.

The committee further expressed deep concern over the deteriorating state of institutions of higher learning.

The MPs called for transparency and accountability from accounting officers, directing the Committee clerk to invite the university council members to provide answers to specific questions raised by members.

“This Committee comprises professionals from various fields, and we expect factual responses, not mere storytelling,” he asserted.

Lesuuda said they will contemplate and deliver a verdict on Principals and Vice-Chancellors of institutions who are taking the committee back and forth on the many issues they have been called upon to address

“We don’t want our institutions to fail as a result of poor accountability,” she said.

The Committee continues to take to task and investigate financial irregularities in several higher education institutions.
