Students at various levels in Kuresoi South have received bursary cheques from the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF).
The bursaries are aimed at supporting education access across the constituency, as pressure mounts for additional funding.
The exercise, overseen by NG-CDF Chairman Wilson Bii, together with other committee members, was conducted on behalf of area MP Joseph Tonui.
The distribution targeted both boarding and day secondary school students, with principals from across the constituency in attendance.
Speaking during the issuance, Tonui confirmed that all bursary cheques for secondary school beneficiaries were ready, while funds for students in tertiary institutions had already been disbursed.
“We have ensured that all bursary cheques are ready, and the funds for our students in tertiary institutions have already been successfully disbursed,” said Tonui.
He added that the bursary programme is designed to enhance access to education and ensure that learners from all parts of Kuresoi South are supported in achieving their academic goals.
“The bursary programme is meant to strengthen access to education and ensure that no learner is left behind because of financial constraints,” he said.
A total of Ksh 15,715,000 was disbursed to secondary schools within the constituency. According to officials, from the broader allocation of Ksh 50 million, Ksh 29 million has been set aside for secondary schools both within and outside the constituency, Ksh 20 million for tertiary institutions, and Ksh 1 million for special schools.
Tonui said the initiative reflects his commitment to ensuring that education remains accessible to all learners regardless of their background.
“No child should be denied the right to education because of financial challenges. This programme is a deliberate effort to support parents and keep learners in school,” he said.
He noted that education remains a key pillar for transformation and development, adding that continued collaboration with stakeholders will help sustain such programmes.
“Education is the strongest foundation for transformation. Together with stakeholders, we will continue empowering our young people through such impactful initiatives,” Tonui said.
Parents and students who benefited from the bursaries expressed gratitude, praising the initiative for easing financial pressure and enabling learners to remain in school.
