  • Marakwet West MP Timothy Toroitich has awarded Kamoi High School KSh100,000 for winning the Elgeyo Marakwet County football title.
  • The MP also donated KSh10,000 to facilitate supporters travelling to the Rift Valley regional championships in Narok.
  • Education stakeholders say the gesture will boost talent development and motivate learners.

Celebrations erupted at Kamoi High School after Marakwet West Member of Parliament Timothy Toroitich rewarded the school’s football team with KSh100,000 for winning the Elgeyo Marakwet County Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) football championship.

The legislator also announced an additional KSh10,000 to facilitate students and supporters travelling to Narok for the forthcoming Rift Valley Regional Secondary Schools Games.

Kamoi High School lifted the county title after defeating Kitany Boys High School 2-0 in a replayed final played at Iten Grounds.

The replay followed the disqualification of Kipsoen High School, which had initially emerged champions but was later banned for fielding ineligible players.

Speaking during the team’s training camp, Toroitich congratulated the players for their discipline, teamwork and determination.

“This victory is not just for Kamoi High School but for the entire Marakwet West community. Our children have demonstrated that through dedication and talent, we can compete and succeed at the highest level,” he said.

The MP said the KSh100,000 would support the school’s football programme by purchasing training equipment, playing kits and improving player welfare.

The additional KSh10,000, he said, would help transport supporters travelling to Narok to cheer the team.

Motivation ahead of regional games

Kamoi High School Principal James Sambasi welcomed the support, describing it as a major morale booster as the school prepares for the regional championships.

He said the donation would also strengthen the school’s efforts to nurture learners’ talents in line with the Competency-Based Education (CBE) curriculum.

The team captain thanked the MP and the local community for believing in the players.

“We are highly motivated. This support shows that our leaders believe in us. We will work hard to make Marakwet West proud at the regional championships,” he said.

Education and sports stakeholders in the county also praised the initiative, saying such recognition encourages learners to excel in both academics and co-curricular activities.
