MP issues stern warning against parents not educating their children

Marakwet West Member of Parliament (MP) Timothy Kipchumba Toroitich has urged Chiefs and their Assistants to deal firmly with errant parents who do not take their children to school.

Toroitich noted that there were many children in the region who were out of school for various reasons hence the need to conduct a mop up exercise to take them back to class.

Speaking at Kapsowar Boys Secondary school, the MP told parents that they were neglecting their duty and infringing on their children’s right to education by not taking them to school.

He added that by allowing their children to remain at home, they were unknowingly exposing them to vices such as drugs and substance abuse at their tender age.

Toroitich urged teachers to avoid engaging in side businesses during working hours as it lowered their integrity and affected effective coverage of the syllabus.

He urged teachers to take pride in their work, compete amongst themselves so as to produce high grades in national examinations.

The legislator disclosed that there were various organizations and donors willing to sponsor top performing students to achieve their academic goals.

“There are willing donors ready to sponsor hard working students, but so far we have fallen short as a Sub County in getting the targeted results to qualify for such support as we only have a few candidates who manage to get the required points,” he said.
