MP calls for speedy investigations into dorm fire incident at Nyamira school

Panic and fear rented St. Kiabonyoru Girls High school in Nyamira County on Thursday evening after a school dormitory was gutted down by fire.

According to school Principal Enock Ondari, the sudden fire broke out at around 7.00 pm when students had just resumed their evening studies.

Ondari said the affected dormitory housed 71 form two students who were forced to spend the night in the cold while others scrambled to fix themselves among their colleagues in other dorms.

The students lost all their belongings in the fire whose cause is yet to be established.

“I thank God that none of the students was hurt although they lost everything in to the inferno,” he said.

The principal assured parents of their children’s safety and appealed to well-wishers to visit the school and assist the affected students with basic amenities to enable them continue their education.

Talking on phone, Borabu constituency MP Patrick Osero appealed to the police to hasten investigations and establish the cause of the incident.

The MP promised to visit the school and offer assistance.

The fire incident comes barely a month after another dormitory burnt at Riokindo Girls school in Kisii county.

According to the school Principal Josephine Nyabuto, the students settled soon after the incident after principals in the sub county mobilized resources to assist the affected learners.
