This year’s Madaraka Day celebrations will centre on the theme “Education, Skills and the Future,” shifting the spotlight to learning, innovation, and skills development.
As Kenya commemorates attaining internal self rule from Britain in 1963, the Ministry of Education (MoE) has taken charge of the preparations to ensure all activities align with the national theme.
The Ministry’s Director General, Dr Elyas Abdi, on Saturday, May 24, 2026 chaired a meeting with field officers from the Ministry and the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) in Wajir County to assess preparedness for the upcoming celebrations.
According to a statement shared on the Ministry’s official X account, the four day programme will include discussions on policy, innovation, leadership, skills development, and community based learning as the Ministry pushes forward with transformative and inclusive education initiatives nationwide.
Senior officials
The meeting was attended by several senior government officials, including the Ministry’s Administration Director Mr Fred Mwei and the Head of the Directorate of Field Coordination and Co curricular Activities Mr Nelson Sifuna. Wajir County Director of Education Dr Koriyow Hussein Ali and Ms Janet Langat, Deputy Director of Education and Executive Secretary of the Kenya Music and Drama Festival, were also present.
