Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) has partnered with Nelson Mandela University to host a two-day workshop aimed at strengthening research management systems and building institutional capacity.
The training, which commenced earlier this week and concluded on Wednesday, brought together Associate Deans and administrative staff from MMUST’s 11 faculties. It is anchored on the theme, “Strengthening Research Management Systems for Institutional Excellence and Impact.”
The initiative seeks to enhance the university’s ability to manage research processes effectively, while equipping participants with skills to support high-quality, impactful research output. Organizers say the workshop focuses on practical strategies for improving research coordination, funding management, and institutional support systems.

Leading the delegation from Nelson Mandela University is Dr. Palesa Mothapo, Director of Research Support and Management, who is facilitating knowledge exchange sessions and sharing insights drawn from South Africa’s higher education sector.
University officials noted that the collaboration underscores MMUST’s commitment to positioning itself as a regional hub for innovation and research excellence. By leveraging cross-border expertise and best practices, the institution aims to strengthen its research ecosystem and expand its global academic partnerships.
The workshop is expected to play a key role in enhancing the capacity of academic leaders and administrators, ultimately contributing to improved research output and institutional impact.
