Young athletes who participated in a two-week high-altitude training camp at Tegat training facility, Bomet East sub-county centre in Bomet county have now returned to their respective schools following the official reopening of learning institutions for the new term.
The camp, which brought together 58 learners comprising 38 boarders and 20 day scholars, focused on athletics development, discipline and talent nurturing under the guidance of certified coaches and officials from Athletics Kenya.
As schools reopen, the participants are expected to integrate back into academic life while maintaining their training routines within school programs, a balance that officials say is key to holistic development.
The county government of Bomet, through the Office of the Chief Officer for Youth and Sports and Camp Administrator Mr David Cheres, described the program as a success, noting that it achieved its objective of preparing young athletes both physically and mentally ahead of the school term.
He commended the learners for their commitment throughout the camp, saying discipline and consistency were key highlights observed during the two-week program.
“This camp was not only about performance on the track but also about shaping responsible and focused young people who can balance education and sport,” said Cheres.
He further emphasised that the county remains committed to supporting structured sports development programs, especially during school holidays, to ensure continuous talent identification and growth.
With the April camp concluded, attention now shifts to the next training sessions scheduled for the August and December holidays, which are expected to accommodate a larger number of participants from across the county.

Education stakeholders have welcomed the initiative, noting that such programs play a vital role in keeping learners engaged during school breaks while strengthening the link between academics and co-curricular excellence.
The Tegat camp continues to be a key hub for nurturing promising young athletes in the region, with many hoping to progress to national and international competition levels in the future.
