Meru County Woman Representative Elizabeth Karambu Kailemia has called on the national government to consolidate all bursary funds under the National Treasury to curb mismanagement.

She noted that the current system, where bursaries are distributed through different institutions and offices, often leads to duplication, mismanagement, and delays that disadvantage needy students.

Speaking during a presser in Meru town, MP Kailemia emphasized that merging these funds would create a unified and transparent system that guarantees equal access to education opportunities for all learners across the country.

“Centralizing the bursary program would ensure that resources are used more effectively, reaching the most deserving students without bias or political interference,” said Kailemia.

She further stated that education remains the greatest investment in empowering young people and transforming communities.

“By ensuring that education is free and accessible to every child, the government would not only reduce inequality but also secure a stronger future for the nation through a well-educated and empowered generation,” said Kailemia.

She said consolidating the funds is the best way to ensure the deserving learners benefits since the chiefs and school principals will be used to identity the needy cases.

Many are of the opinion that centralized bursary funds will inevitably eliminate corruption because some politicians use it to reward their cronies.
