Students from University, tertiary institutions and secondary schools in North Mugirango, Nyamira County have raised concerns over the distribution of the Education Bursary funds by the local National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) office.
Speaking to Education News, the students accused the NG-CDF office committee members of discrimination and ineptness, calling for accountability and transparency in the exercise.
Many applicants, especially those from Baraton University of East Africa, claim they didn’t receive any money despite submitting their application forms.
“I travelled all the way from Eldoret, spending a lot on transport, hoping to get the cheque, but I haven’t benefited,” said Jane Bosibori.

The affected students have appealed to the area MP to review the exercise, involving transparent processes beyond relying on the committee alone, which they claim misleads him.
When Education News visited the venue for cheques issuing at Nyamauro Primary School, the compound was deserted. An MP’s office worker, who didn’t want to be named, said they hurriedly finished the exercise to avoid rain and referred the matter to the MP for comment.
Efforts to reach MP Joash Nyamoko for comment were unsuccessful.
