Meru Governor Isaac Mutuma and his administration will start providing free porridge to all Early Childhood Development learners across all 45 wards of the County.
Speaking at her office at the Meru headquarters, Deputy Governor Linda Kiome announced that the Uji feeding program will commence before the end of the 2025/26 financial year, aiming to increase enrollment in ECDE learners.
Kiome said that the feeding program will help curb malnutrition in small children and motivate them to stay in classes without scratching their bellies due to biting hunger.
“The Uji feeding program will start this year. Its main aim is to increase enrollment in schools, enrich the kids with great health and motivate them to concentrate during their studies,” Ms Kiome said.

Linda said the Governor’s type of leadership is inclusive, values women and youths, and that is the reason he is initiating empowerment programs for both.
Linda appealed to Meru people to give her office, the governor and the entire county administration ample time as they endeavour to implement the itemised budget that is before the county assembly.
She said their government is in high gear towards completing all stalled ECDE classes.
Linda said the current leadership led by Governor Mutuma offers a conducive working relationship with all the 69 MCAs, including those who were staunch supporters of the impeached Governor Kawira Mwangaza.
“There are no more divisions between the executive and the legislature. We believe good leadership is enshrined in bringing everyone on board. We have declared to work and develop every part of Meru and devolve resources equally to all the 45 Wards,” she said.
