Girls and young women in Makueni County on Thursday 28, benefited from dignity kits and reproductive health education during celebrations to mark World Menstrual Hygiene Day at Nziu Primary School.
The event, organized through the Makueni CountyDepartment of Health, brought together county officials, community leaders, and education stakeholders to promote menstrual health awareness and improve the welfare of school-going girls.
Speaking during the event, Makueni Sub-County Deputy Commissioner Paul Langat urged individuals and institutions to continue supporting young girls, especially learners, by improving sanitation and hygiene facilities in schools to create a conducive learning environment.

“We must continue supporting menstrual hygiene programmes and ensure girls have access to proper sanitation facilities for comfortable learning,” said Langat.

Makueni County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Health Services Joyce Mutua applauded the government’s efforts in advancing menstrual hygiene initiatives aimed at protecting the dignity and welfare of girls.
“I appreciate the government for supporting menstrual hygiene programmes aimed at improving the welfare and dignity of school-going girls,” said Mutua.
Mutua also led the county government in distributing dignity and health kits to learners at Nziu Primary School and trainees at Nziu Vocational Training Centre.
She further advised the young learners to remain focused on their studies and cautioned them against early pregnancies, noting that they could lead to premature births and other childbirth-related complications.
Local chiefs and administrators were also urged to remain vigilant and take swift action on reports related to child defilement and other forms of abuse affecting children in the community.
