Machogu awards winners of Huawei ICT Competition

Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Education Dr. Ezekiel Machogu has said that his office will work with Universities and other stakeholders to ensure students receive appropriate teaching and training to be fully equipped for employment.

The CS said that the Government is on their top gear towards the implementing use of modern technology in teaching learners at all levels.

The CS was speaking when he presided over award ceremony of 2023-2024 ICT competition winners.

The event that is organised by the by Huwaei ICT Competitions in partnership with Safaricom, UNESCO and The Ministry of Education, recognizes and crowns the best ICT talented youths in the country.

He said that this transformative approach to education harnesses digital learning to unlock learning opportunities.

The CS added that the UNESCO embraces a strategy that focuses on the fundamental pillars to unlock digital learning which are content, capacity and connectivity.

“Our Ministry is aware of the importance of applying technology in teaching and producing a workforce with high technology skills,” he said.

He commended the Huwaei Digital Solution Company for their effort in enhancing traditional classroom with modern accessories, injecting digital into classrooms through blackboards, lecterns and acoustic devices.

Present during the celebrations were Mr Gavin Gao the CEO Huwaei Kenya, Dr Alaxandrose Makangakis, Director and Representative of UNESCO Regional Office for Eastern Africa, Ms Donna Rege,  Senior Manager IT Business & Government and Women In Technology (WIT) Lead.

Out of the almost 6,000 who entered the 2023-2024 Huawei ICT Competition, 21 top Kenyan students emerged top and were awarded at a ceremony held in Nairobi on Friday March 15.
