Father Heeran Girls and Kisukioni Boys High School in Matungulu Sub-County, Machakos County are set to host new wings dedicated to Special Needs Education as Grade 10 students transition to high school next year.

Speaking to the press, Kisukioni Boys Principal Nicholas Nzioki and Father Heeran Girls Principal Damaris Maweu said preparations are underway to ensure learners with disabilities are well accommodated.

Nzioki noted that the schools have been mandated to prepare for the incoming Grade 10 cohort and ensure the integration is seamless.

“We will be meeting with Heads of Departments and the Board of Management to plan on mobilizing resources. Dormitories, classrooms, and other facilities will be tailored to suit learners living with disabilities,” he explained.

Maweu said her school is already holding sensitization meetings with students to promote inclusivity.

“We want our students to accept and support their peers who are abled differently once they join. By the time we start admitting them, we will be ready. We already have ramps in place and a home science laboratory to support learning. We are expecting at least 70 SNE students,” she assured.

The principals emphasized that the expanded curriculum, including music, computer studies, and home science, will give learners with special needs equal opportunities to thrive academically and socially.

“Our message to parents is simple: do not worry. Your children will be safe, comfortable, and fully supported here,” said Nzioki.
