Machakos County Governor Wavinya Ndeti launched the 3rd edition of the Governor Wavinya Cup, a youth talent nurturing tournament on September 18, 2025 at Kisooni Catholic Church Grounds, Mumbuni North.
According to Governor Wavinya, this year’s edition will bring together 650 teams from all 40 wards in the county, adding that the tournament goes beyond football to promote youth empowerment, environmental conservation, and mental health.

She added that the annual tournament is platform for youth talent nurturing saying that already, the Cup has produced stars like Mary Nthambi in the Women’s Premier League and Felix Mwendwa, now in Spain for scouting.
She called for discipline, passion and teamwork among the teams to make the edition a success.

“I wish all the teams the very best as they begin the third edition of the Governor Wavinya Cup. Play with passion, discipline, and teamwork as you showcase your talents.” Ndeti said.
“As we celebrate this tournament, let us also remember to take care of our environment and say NO to drug and substance abuse. Machakos is truly a home of talent! Vijana tusakate dimba, wasichana tucheze ball, hatubebi ball.”
Governor Wavinya further said that Football brings opportunities and income adding that Championing eco-friendly sports for a sustainable, greener future reminds us that we can nurture talent while protecting our environment for generations to come.
