Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has advised parents in the county to monitor their children not to be involved in drug abuse and other vices that may ruin their lives during the November -December holiday.
She said some students join bad company during the holidays and end up learning bad behavior which interferes with their academics.
She asked parents to be vigilant on both girls and boys who make friends with people who are not students.
“I ask parents to monitor their children. I want my children back in school in good health when the holiday is over,” the governor said on Sunday while addressing residents at lita market in Kathiani Sub-county.
The county boss said parents should know about their Children’s whereabouts and what they are up to.

“A lot of school children waste time during holidays. Parents should engage their children with homework, get them to help with house chores and also monitor who is with them at any given time,” she added.
The governor advised parents to keep their children engaged during the long holiday so as to avoid bad company and the temptation to engage in immoral behavior which may lead to contracting of sexually transmitted diseases
She said one way of keeping children engaged during holidays is to assign them homework for a specific period of the day and also get them to help in home chores.
Her call come as schools across the country prepare to break for December holidays as from next week.
