A sombre mood has engulfed St. Mukasa Girls secondary school in Lwandeti ward, Lugari Constituency in Kakamega County following the death of Biology and Chemistry teacher Josyline Mmbone.
Mmbone passed away on Wednesday at around 3 a.m. while receiving treatment at Lifecare hospital in Bungoma after developing sudden health complications.
According to the school principal, Melissa Atieli, the teacher had been admitted to the hospital after experiencing swelling in her legs and face before her condition worsened.
“She was receiving treatment when her condition suddenly deteriorated, leading to her untimely death,” said the principal.

Her death has left students, teachers and the wider school community in shock, with many describing her as a dedicated and hardworking educator who was passionate about guiding learners in sciences.
Family members and colleagues are currently making burial arrangements, with her body expected to be transferred to Chimoi Mortuary.
Messages of condolence have continued to pour in from friends, former students and members of the education fraternity who have mourned her as a committed teacher whose contribution to education will be greatly missed.
The school community extended its deepest condolences to her family, relatives, colleagues, students and friends, praying for strength and comfort during this difficult period.
