Parents in schools across Lugari constituency have been accused of contributing to the poor performance of their children as they neglect responsibilities in academic programmes.
Speaking during a fund drive at the Kenya African Church of the Holy Spirit in the Bahati area, Lumakanda ward, MP Nabii Nabwera was disgusted with the slow movement of parents when called by the school administration to attend academic meetings in response to their children’s performances.
MP Nabii raised concerns to all parents, especially male parents who boycott parents’ meetings, urging them to attend and give attention that would boost performance.

“Whenever I visit schools, teachers complain about parents failing to attend meetings, and it’s their obligation. At times, only female parents are seen, just a handful,” decried the MP.
Nabii, who is also a member of the Education Committee in the National Assembly, disclosed that recently he visited Majengo Senior School, and only 20 per cent of male parents turned out, and that really contributes to poor performance.

Additionally, he cautioned principals against sending home students for fees, announcing that he will pay fees for Form 3 and 4 students, and support the rest by paying half of the school fees from the Sh. 10,000 fees slated for day schools.

He urged parents to be committed to educating children by paying fees on time, as a way of showing love to them.
Nabii warned that no student should be found loitering along the roads at the beginning of the second term when schools reopen.
