The education sector is mourning the passing on of Leonard Sawe, an esteemed educator and former principal of Kericho High School, who will be buried tomorrow.
Known for his towering presence and firm yet transformative leadership, Sawe has left an indelible mark in the schools and institutions he served, most notably Kericho, Tenges and Litein High schools.
His legacy extends beyond the classroom, reaching into public administration as a former Permanent Secretary (PS) – now known as Principal Secretary – in the Ministry of Local Government.
Throughout his tenure at Kericho High, Sawe’s strict discipline and dedication to nurturing academic and personal excellence earned him respect among students and peers alike.

His contributions are remembered fondly by notable alumni, including Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir, former Konion MP Sammy Koech, and former Egerton University Chancellor Changtoek.
Under his leadership, many young men grew into prominent figures inspired by his unwavering commitment and formidable character described as being built like a police reservist.
Sawe’s legacy will continue to echo in the halls of the schools he led and in the lives of those he influenced. The educational community and former students will remember him as an educator who demanded excellence, yet provided the mentorship needed to achieve it.
He will be laid to rest tomorrow in his Cheptalal village, Bomet.
