As the country prepares to transition fully into the Senior School phase of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) next year, a number of private schools have begun rolling out Grade 10, positioning themselves to admit the first cohort of learners entering Senior School in 2026.
Senior School, running from Grade 10 to Grade 12, marks a major structural shift in Kenya’s education system.
Unlike the former 8-4-4 system, Senior School allows learners to pursue specialised pathways based on their interests, abilities and career aspirations.
The three approved pathways are Arts and Sports Science, Social Sciences, and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), with some institutions also integrating niche options such as aviation and advanced technology tracks.
The schools vary in scope, with some offering two pathways, others all three pathways, and a few introducing specialised options such as aviation.
