List of venues and dates for collection of views regarding CBC

By Kevin Odera

The Presidential Working Party on Education Reforms has released its schedule for collection of views from stakeholders.

Through its Chairman Prof. Raphael Munavu, the 49-member taskforce has listed the venues and times the Party teams shall be visiting to receive views regarding the controversial Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) either verbally or in writing.

“Members of the Public are requested to give their views either in writing or verbally to the Presidential Working Party on Education reforms based on the Terms of Reference as per The Kenya Gazette Notice No. 11920,” the notice reads in part.

The Party states that all public engagements in the Counties shall be conducted from 8.00 AM to 4.00 PM starting November 1 to November 11, 2022.

“The Working Party Teams shall accordingly be visiting and available to receive views from various stakeholders at the dates, times and venues listed,” it continues.

This development comes after President William Ruto appointed the taskforce on September 30, 2022 and inaugurated by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on October 12, 2022 to review CBC, among other tasks, following widespread concern and complaints by parents and teachers on the costliness of the Curriculum.

The task force has a period of six months to recommend appropriate structures to be adopted and implemented regarding CBC. The team is expected to submit a progress report every two months to the President.

Some of its tasks entail summative evaluation of the CBC, studying all laws governing the basic education subsector, making recommendations, assess and come up with a framework for assessment and evaluation, quality assurance, teacher education and training and teacher deployment.
