Public university lecturers have issued a new seven-day strike notice after failing to reach an agreement with the government on the implementation of a return-to-work formula signed weeks ago.
The new development comes after lecturers previously downed tools on September 2, demanding improved pay and working conditions.
The agreement, which was intended to address the lecturers’ grievances, appears to have stalled, leading to frustrations among the dons.
According to the University Academic Staff Union (UASU), the government’s failure to honor the agreed terms has left them with no choice but to renew the dispute afresh.
The looming strike will further disrupt learning in public universities which was already hampered by last month’s industrial action.
