A primary school pupil in Kericho County has sparked widespread debate after boldly challenging her Member of Parliament over the deteriorating condition of her school during a public event attended by senior county leaders.

The pupil from Ngesumin Comprehensive School in Bureti Constituency made the remarks during a school function attended by Governor Erick Mutai, Senator Aaron Cheruiyot and Bureti MP Kibet Komingoi.

A video that has since circulated widely on social media shows the learner confidently addressing the MP and urging him to acknowledge the condition of the school’s classrooms.

“MP, where are you?” she asked, calling on the legislator to stand before the audience.

Appeal for Better Learning Conditions

The learner then pointed to the classroom structures behind her, describing the difficult conditions pupils face every day.

“Take a look at the classes. Take a look at that one. That is a class. That is actually a class with no windows. Are there any? There is nothing,” she said.

As the MP turned his attention towards the classrooms, the pupil continued with her appeal.

“We have no tiles on the floor. We have nothing. Sometimes when we come to school, we have to carry blankets with us,” she said, drawing murmurs from members of the audience.

Respectful but Firm Message

Despite her criticism, the learner remained respectful and expressed confidence that leaders would eventually address the situation.

“Your Excellency, we love you a lot, and we know you have plans. We believe in you, we trust in you, we know what you are planning. We know that you will renovate, but the problem is, we are becoming too impatient now,” she said.

Appreciation for Existing Developments

The pupil also acknowledged improvements already made at the school and thanked county leaders for supporting development initiatives.

“Nowadays, we do not carry water which always disturbed our studies. Whenever we tried to study, sometimes we were told to run to the river and get water,” she said.

She further thanked the MP for supporting the construction of a road linking the school to neighbouring areas.

The remarks have since attracted widespread attention online, with many Kenyans praising the learner for speaking candidly about the challenges facing her school.
