Lamu Governor donates uniforms, desks to primary school learners in Mkunumbi Ward

Lamu Governor Issa Timamy distributes free uniforms, shoes to Bahati Njema Primary in Mkunumbi Ward.

Lamu County Governor Issa Timamy has issued free uniforms and shoes to 126 Bahati Njema Primary School learners in Mkunumbi Ward, Lamu West Constituency.

Speaking when he visited the school Governor Timamy reaffirmed his commitment towards supporting the improvement of the county’s academic performance and ensuring learners access the opportunity to fulfill their potential.

“I am here today to fulfill my promise towards ensuring these children have respectable school uniforms rather than tattered ones that have a negative psychological effect on a growing mind,” said the governor.

Timamy said he is also committed to assist the school towards procuring desks and also in participating in co-curricular activities.

The school head teacher David Migwi thanked the governor for his assistance noting that the uniforms would go a long way towards boosting learners’ self-esteem since all of them come from disadvantaged areas.”The uniforms, shoes will boost the learners self-esteem because most of them come from disadvantaged areas,” said Migwi.

Also, Hongwe Primary learners in Lamu County received 50 lockers and same number of chairs that they will use while learning.

The furniture were donated by the governor aimed at reducing overcrowding as learners did not have enough facility to facilitate their learning. And they used to learn under a tree.

Governor Timamy said the main aim of the donation of the learning resources was to improve access to quality education and provide conducive environment for children.

“My administration remains committed towards supporting our children’s education since we believe that every one of them should have the opportunity and means to realize their full potential regardless of their circumstance,” Governor Timamy said.

The governor also thanked a foreign sponsor who has established a physiotherapy class for learners who require physio sessions as part of their journey to recovery.

He also commended the school administration for their efforts towards ensuring learners with disabilities are well taken care of and promised that the county administration through the Department of Education would embark towards improving dormitory of the school for the disabled.

“Through partnership with my friends and other sponsors, a dormitory is going to be established for learners with disabilities so as to accommodate students,” said Timamy.
