Kwale Parents Urged to Uphold Religious Teachings in Child Upbringing

Kwale Governor Fatuma Achani has called on parents to instill religious values in their children, emphasizing that faith plays a crucial role in shaping moral character and curbing crime.

Speaking at the official opening of Kilulu Mosque in Mivumoni Village, Achani expressed concern over the rising cases of attacks by youth gangs, commonly known as “panga boys.”

She attributed the surge in criminal activities to a lack of religious guidance and inadequate parental involvement in children’s upbringing.

“As a community, we must instill discipline and religious values in our children. The increasing cases of crime among the youth stem from lack of moral guidance,” she said.

The governor urged religious leaders to work closely with parents and the community to promote ethical teachings that would help steer young people away from crime, adding that religious institutions have a significant role in mentoring the youth and providing them with a sense of purpose.

Achani also called on security agencies to intensify efforts in tackling gang violence, warning that crime threatens the peace and stability of communities.

She stressed that a strong religious foundation is key to shaping responsible citizens and preventing young people from engaging in criminal activities, urging parents to take full responsibility for paying tuition fees to ensure their children receive proper religious education.

She appealed to stakeholders, including local leaders and civil society groups, to collaborate in addressing the root causes of youth delinquency.

She further advised young people to embrace education and vocational training as a means of securing their future.

“Education is the key to success. I urge young people to embrace it wholeheartedly,” she said.

Achani said that creating opportunities for the youth would deter them from engaging in criminal activities and contribute to the region’s development.
