The Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) is today under legal spotlight as the Employment and Labour Relations Court (ELRC) in Nairobi hears a series of cases involving the teachers’ union.
The matters, listed for mention and hearing across different ELRC courts, point to ongoing disputes touching on union governance, representation, and compliance issues.
Before Justice Monica Mbaru at ELRC Court 1, two separate cases involving KUPPET are scheduled for mention.
In ELRCPET/E091/2026, Eros Wambui Wanjiku, Karira Kimara and three others have filed suit against the union, raising issues expected to be clarified at the mention stage.
In another matter, ELRCPET/E098/2026, Robert Miano and Okisai Omunyin Moffat have also moved to court against KUPPET and the Registrar of Trade Unions.

The case is similarly set for mention before the same court.
In addition, KUPPET is also named in proceedings before Justice Dr. Jacob Gakeri at ELRC Court 7.
In ELRCPET/E041/2026, Moses Owiti Mbora, Justus Kimolo and five others have filed a case against the union’s Secretary General and the Registrar of Trade Unions.
The matter is also listed for mention.
The multiple filings involving KUPPET reflect growing internal and regulatory tensions that are now subject to judicial determination.
While the cases are still at mention stage, they are expected to set the direction for further proceedings that may shape aspects of union administration and accountability within the education sector.
The ELRC is expected to give directions on the matters as proceedings continue.
