- KUPPET members in 10 branches will elect new officials in repeat and by-elections on July 4.
- The polls follow election disputes and leadership vacancies in the affected branches.
- Members will be required to present their national identity cards and T-Pay details before voting.
Teachers in 10 branches of the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) will head to the polls on Saturday, July 4, to elect new branch officials in repeat and by-elections following disputes and leadership vacancies in the affected branches.
According to a circular issued by Deputy Secretary General Moses Nthurima, polling stations will open at 6.00 a.m. and close at 6.00 p.m.
KUPPET members have been directed to present their original national identity cards together with their T-Pay details before casting their ballots.
Ten branches affected
The elections will be conducted in Laikipia, Uasin Gishu, Kericho, Murang’a, Kitui, Kirinyaga, Mombasa, Lamu, Garissa and Nairobi, with designated polling venues already communicated to branch officials.
The repeat polls have arisen under different circumstances across the affected branches.
In some branches, including Laikipia, earlier elections were nullified following disputes and appeals arising from the electoral process, prompting the union to order fresh polls.
In other branches, by-elections became necessary after elected officials resigned from their branch positions to contest KUPPET national leadership positions.
Under the union’s constitution, branch officials seeking national office must relinquish their branch positions before contesting, creating vacancies that are now being filled through by-elections.
The elections are expected to attract significant interest from union members as they seek to strengthen branch leadership ahead of the union’s forthcoming national elections.

The exercise is also expected to help resolve election-related disputes that have affected some branches while ensuring all regions are adequately represented within KUPPET’s leadership structures.
