KUPPET boss’s condemnation on TSC promotion of ASAL teachers is unfair, selfish

EDUCATION

The Arid and Semi-Arid Lands, (ASAL) Teachers’ leadership,  has strongly condemned the remarks made by KUPPET Acting Secretary General, Moses Nthurima, during his televised statement on a local TV, terming it irresponsible and baseless.

The ASAL leadership said that the acting KUPPET secretary general, claimed that teachers from ASAL regions are unfairly favored in promotions, the allegations they dismissed as not only false but also divisive, discriminatory, and unbecoming of a leader entrusted with safeguarding the interests of all teachers.

They noted that, Nthurima’s reckless assertions is amounting to an unprovoked attack on the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and the hardworking educators in marginalized areas.

“His insinuation that teachers from arid and semi-arid regions receive undeserved promotions is not only misleading but also displays a blatant disregard for fairness, meritocracy, and the constitutional principles governing the teaching profession. Such utterances have the potential to sow discord within the teaching fraternity and must be condemned in the strongest terms possible,” they said.

They added that all teachers across the country are subjected to the same promotion criteria, as set by the TSC and there is no provision in law that discriminates against or favors any region in career progression.

“The assertion that teachers from arid and semi-arid counties receive preferential treatment is therefore malicious, misleading, and aimed at undermining the dignity and efforts of educators serving in some of the most challenging environments,” they lamented.

They said that regions unfairly targeted by  Nthurima’s alleged falsehoods are, Baringo, Garissa, Mandera, Marshabit, Samburu and Tana River as the Arid Counties; Kajiado, kilifi,Makueni, Kitui,Kwale,Laikipia,Kiambu, Narok, Taita Taveta and West Pokot; as the Semi-Arid Counties

“As representatives of teachers from these regions, we categorically reject and denounce any attempts to discredit our members or create divisions among educators. It is unfortunate that an official of Nthurima’s stature, who is expected to champion the rights of all teachers, has instead chosen to propagate baseless accusations that undermine professional integrity and unity within the sector,” they said.

They demanded an immediate and unequivocal apology from Nthurima terming his  remarks as defamatory and inflammatory.

“He must retract his misleading statement and issue a public apology to the teachers of arid and semi-arid counties within 24 hours. Failure to do so will compel us to take further action in defense of our members,” said the leaders.

They urged teachers in these areas to remain patient as they pursue the matter to its logical conclusion. Rest assuring that the leadership shall not tolerate any form of discrimination or unjustified attacks against teachers serving in these regions.
