The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Annual Delegates Conference (ADC) is scheduled to begin officially tomorrow and conclude on Wednesday.
KNUT Branch Executive Secretaries have diligently gathered materials for their respective branches in anticipation of this significant event.
The spotlight of the conference will be on Wednesday, as KNUT conducts by-elections to fill five crucial national positions.
The registration process is slated to run from 9 AM to 12 Noon, adding an air of anticipation to the proceedings.
The by-elections aim to fill the void left by the untimely demise of John Wesonga and Stanley Mutai, who held the positions of 1st and 2nd National Chairman.
Additionally, the positions of 1st National Trustee, NEC 1 Rift Valley Region, and NEC 4 (Affirmative Action) – Central are up for grabs.
Among the notable contenders is Aggrey Namisi, who, having previously contested for the position of 1st National Vice Chairman in the 2021 elections but lost to the late Wesonga, now seeks to fill the role of 1st Vice National Chairman.
Another prominent candidate is Malel Lang’at, who resigned from his NEC 1 Rift Valley position to vie for the position of 2nd Vice National Chairman.
Both Namisi and Lang’at have received the endorsement of their respective regions, Western and Rift Valley, and are likely to run unopposed.
Namisi, expressing optimism during the morning registration process, outlined his plans to collaborate with other union officials in revitalizing the union’s mental health section and gender desk.
