KMTC mourns death of student during clinical attachment

The Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) is mourning the death of one of its students,, who passed away following a tragic accident on June 5, 2026 while undertaking his clinical attachment.

In a statement issued by KMTC Chief Executive Officer Dr. Kelly Oluoch, Mutuku was a student at KMTC Yatta Campus pursuing a Certificate in Health Care Support Assistant.

He had joined the institution in September 2025 and was on official clinical placement at the time of the incident.

According to preliminary reports, Mutuku was involved in a road accident on June 5 and was immediately rushed to hospital for emergency treatment.

Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after admission.

KMTC said it is working closely with relevant security agencies that have launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident.

The institution noted that the findings will help establish what exactly transpired and whether any further action will be required.

Dr. Oluoch, in his condolence message, described Mutuku’s death as a painful loss to the KMTC fraternity, extending sympathy to the bereaved family, friends, staff and fellow students.

He assured that the college will continue to stand with the family during this difficult period.

The institution further pledged to offer support to the campus community as they come to terms with the tragedy, noting that counselling services may be made available to affected students and staff.

The death has cast a cloud of mourning over KMTC Yatta Campus, where Mutuku was remembered as a committed student with a promising future in the health sector.

Students and staff are now awaiting the outcome of ongoing investigations into the incident as they grapple with the loss.
