Kisumu Central constituency MP Dr. Joshua Oron will sponsor 300 students to undergo training under the Jitume Digital initiative at the Kisumu National Polytechnic (KNP).
Constituency Manager Nahashon Nguena said that the training will equip the beneficiaries with digital skills that will enable them to secure online job opportunities.
He noted that the beneficiaries, who constitute the first cohort of the sponsorship programme, were picked across various wards within the constituency.
Nguena said that the programme is expected to benefit 20,000 youth by the end of the year.
“We hope this programme will be sustained for the next four years going forward,” KNP Deputy Principal in charge of Academics Tom Oswago said.
Oswago lauded Dr. Oron for the gesture, saying that the move will go a long way in equipping the youth with relevant digital skills.
He noted that the beneficiaries will be placed in a boot camp for two weeks before starting the programme.
The Deputy Principal also urged the beneficiaries to consider taking up other courses while at the institution.
