The Voice of Salvation and Healing Church in Kisumu plans to establish a university within the next five years as part of an ambitious education project aimed at expanding access to higher learning and theological training.
According to the head of the church, Bishop Winnie Owiti, the proposed university will be located within the Miwani and Rabuor areas on the outskirts of Kisumu City.
She said the church is currently awaiting approvals from the Kisumu County Government before implementation of the project begins.
Once operational, the institution will offer theological studies alongside degree programmes in a range of disciplines.
At the same time, Bishop Owiti called for a national conversation on the recent wave of unrest in learning institutions.
She said learners should be listened to rather than condemned.
“There should be a broad discussion on the matter,” she said.
