Kisii school alumni mourn former iconic principal as a great influencer

The late John Kinara, former Principal Kisii School.

Kisii School alumni have mourned their former principal as a fallen hero and influencer who ‘ate books and breathed them out’ to impart knowledge to many learners around the world.

Led by former Kisii County Governor James Ongwae, the leaders termed the late John Kinara as an academic father who was steadfast in his discharge of duties.

“We as old boys of Kisii National School are saddened to learn about the passing of our revered father and mentor and now join the world to mourn him,” read part of the message.

The late Kinara passed on in Kakamega Teaching and Referral Hospital where he was undergoing treatment.

He taught many schools before retirement, among them Kisii, Musingu and Kakamega High schools. During his tenure at Kisii School, he regulated the school on its admission criteria to give it a national outlook.

The great disciplinarian improved all areas of the school that included sports, school farm and general students’ welfare.

“We shall remember him most for steering the school as a drama powerhouse,” said Zachary Ondara, one other alumni.

Family members said they will disclose the date and place of his body’s sendoff later.

Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology (JOOUST) don Prof Henry Onderi said that academicians do not die because their work remain to testify of them.
