Kisii County Governor Simba Arati has urged parents to spend quality time with their children during the half-term break, emphasizing the importance of listening to them, offering support, and addressing emerging challenges before they escalate.

The governor made the remarks at Tendere Sports Ground while presiding over a free medical camp organized by the Kisii County Government in partnership with Safaricom Foundation.

Arati noted that teenagers face numerous challenges, including academic pressure, personal struggles, and the influence of rapidly changing social trends. He said maintaining close relationships with children enables parents to better understand their concerns and provide timely guidance.

“Parents should create an environment where children feel comfortable sharing their experiences and challenges,” he said, adding that early intervention can help prevent minor issues from developing into serious problems.

The governor stressed that parenting extends beyond providing basic needs such as food, shelter, and education. He encouraged parents to embrace guidance and counseling and seek professional support when necessary to monitor and safeguard their children’s mental well-being.
