Kisii County Sports Championship calendar for Term One released

The Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KESSSA) has released the Term One County Sports Championship calendar for Nyanza Region, which will be held at Cardinal Otunga Mosocho High School. According to County Sports Secretary Geoffrey Nyandika, the event, which will take five days to complete, will begin on Tuesday (tomorrow) with clinics for referees in basketball, rugby, handball, and hockey.

Day two will feature the official opening ceremony, an athletics clinic, and preliminary matches. Day one activities will mainly focus on athletics and the quarter-finals. The anticipated competitive Term One sports event will conclude on 7th March with athletics play-offs. The qualifying teams will compete in the finals at 11 a.m., followed by a closing ceremony that is expected to be presided over by the Nyanza Regional Director of Education.

Nyandika urged team leaders and coaches to ensure their teams maintain discipline for the smooth running of the events. “We hope to see disciplined and determined players whose aim is to foster friendship and teamwork for the prosperity of our sports,” he said.

In handball, the main duel is expected between newcomers Kereri Girls High School and the defending champions, Ndonyo Girls from Etago Subcounty. Kereri’s coach, Erick Nyakundi, expressed confidence in his team’s readiness. “We are prepared and aim at both competition and completing our journey of success,” he said.
