Two vocational training centres in Kilifi County are set to transform the prospects of youth in the region after the county government officially launched Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) Level 4 courses in Food Production and Baking Technology, backed by a Canadian development partnership.
Muyeye Vocational Training Centre (VTC) and Mapimo VTC will offer the new courses under the Kenya Better Education for Skills and Training (KBEST) programme, supported by Colleges and Institutes Canada and the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology. A Canadian delegation led by NAIT representatives attended the launch, signalling the depth of the international commitment to the initiative.
The County Executive Committee (CEC) Member for Education and ICT, Felkin Kaingu Ndena, officiated the launch alongside Director of Vocational Training Eddystella Wanja, industry stakeholders and development partners. Ndena reaffirmed the county government’s commitment to providing capitation to help offset training costs for enrolled trainees.

The three-year programme is designed to equip trainees with practical, industry-driven competencies in food production and baking technology. Beyond classroom training, the partnership will also provide modern tools and equipment to the two institutions and build the capacity of trainers to deliver competency-based education effectively.
