- Kigali will stage the 24th edition of the regional secondary schools sporting competition next year.
- Rwanda takes over hosting duties from Tanzania, where the 2026 games are being held in Morogoro.
- The event will bring together talented student-athletes and school teams from across the East African region.
Kigali has been awarded the rights to host the 24th edition of the East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSA) Games in 2027, taking over from Tanzania.
The announcement was made as the 23rd edition of the regional school games entered its final stages in Morogoro, Tanzania, bringing together thousands of students from across East Africa to compete in different sporting disciplines.
Rwanda will now have the responsibility of staging one of the region’s biggest secondary school sporting events, with Kigali expected to welcome teams from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda and other participating East African countries.
The decision marks another return of the FEASSA Games to Rwanda. Huye was the last Rwandan city to host the competition in 2023, when schools from the region converged for a week of intense competition and cultural exchange.
The 2027 edition is expected to provide Rwanda with another opportunity to showcase its sporting facilities, organisational capacity and commitment to developing school sports.
FEASSA has continued to play an important role in providing a pathway for talented young athletes to gain regional exposure and compete against some of the best school teams in East Africa.
The games also promote friendship, discipline, teamwork and regional integration among students through sport.
Attention shifts to Kigali
As the 2026 edition in Morogoro comes to a close, attention will now shift to Kigali, where preparations for the 24th edition are expected to begin ahead of the 2027 regional showpiece.
