A football rivalry between St. Mary’s Kibabii Boys National School and Chesamisi Boys Senior School has spilled onto social media following their clash at the Bungoma County Secondary Schools Term Two Games.

The online exchange began shortly after Kibabii eliminated Chesamisi in the boys’ football semi-finals, a result that ended Chesamisi’s hopes of reaching the county final.

In a statement posted on its official Facebook page, Chesamisi Boys claimed it had chosen not to lodge an appeal despite alleging that some players who featured for Kibabii were ineligible.

The school stated that it had evidence concerning several players who participated in the semi-final but had opted against pursuing the matter through official channels.

“We did not lodge any appeal despite our loss to St. Mary’s Kibabii in today’s semi-final,” the statement read. “We believe in fair competition, discipline and spirited fights on the field. Results must be earned, not contested.”

The post quickly drew attention among students, alumni and school sports followers across Bungoma County, with many interpreting it as a challenge to Kibabii’s victory.

Kibabii responds

St. Mary’s Kibabii Boys National School responded with a strongly worded statement of its own, dismissing the allegations and defending its performance on the pitch.

The school argued that Chesamisi’s struggles in recent competitions could not be blamed on Kibabii and described itself as one of the emerging forces in county football.

The response further suggested that Chesamisi should accept the outcome of the match and focus on future competitions.

Debate among supporters

The exchange has since sparked widespread debate on social media, with supporters of both schools weighing in on the matter.

While some defended their respective institutions, others called for restraint and urged the rivals to uphold the spirit of sportsmanship that school competitions seek to promote.

Education and sports stakeholders have repeatedly emphasized discipline, respect and fair play during school games, warning against actions that could undermine the values of student athletics.

By the time of publication, officials overseeing the county games had not publicly commented on the allegations raised online.

The incident underscores the intensity of the football rivalry between the two schools, a contest that continues to attract significant attention both on and off the field.
